About CalcBasePro
CalcBasePro exists because most online calculators are written by people who have never had to stand behind the number. A concrete estimate that ignores wastage, a pump calculation that mixes up head and pressure, an A1C conversion with the wrong slope — these are not cosmetic errors. They cost money, time and sometimes safety. Every tool on this site is built the way an engineering deliverable is built: formula first, reference data cited, and a worked example the output is checked against before the page goes live.
Who builds these tools
The site is developed and maintained by a practicing MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) engineer who works daily with fire protection systems, HVAC design and hydraulic calculations to NFPA and ASHRAE standards, and who also builds and runs engineering tool websites — including the MEP-focused calculator collection at tools.mepbase.com and the engineering resource library at mepbase.com. CalcBasePro extends that same discipline beyond MEP work into construction estimating, advertising metrics, health conversions and home project costs.
How the calculators are verified
Each calculator follows the same engineering workflow. The governing formula is taken from a named source — ACI guidance for concrete yields, the Hazen-Williams equation with published C-factors for pressure drop, the NGSP/ADA regression for A1C to estimated average glucose, IAB definitions for advertising metrics. Unit conversion factors are defined once, as named constants, with the source of each value recorded in the code. Before release, at least one fully worked numeric example is computed by hand and the tool must reproduce it exactly; that example stays in the code as a permanent regression check. Currency is computed in whole cents to avoid floating-point drift, and results round only at the final display step — never mid-calculation.
What the results are — and are not
These tools produce planning estimates. They are accurate implementations of the stated formulas, but a formula cannot see your site conditions, your local code amendments, your lab's measurement method or your contractor's pricing. Material estimates should be confirmed against supplier specifications before ordering. Engineering outputs are for preliminary sizing, not construction documents. Health values are informational and are no substitute for a clinician interpreting your results. The full position is set out in the disclaimer.
Independence and advertising
CalcBasePro is funded by on-page advertising. Ads are clearly labelled, are never placed inside calculators or tables, and have no influence on any formula, reference value or result. No manufacturer or advertiser pays to have a tool recommend its product.
